Juan Diego Flórez studied singing at the National Conservatory of Music in Lima and at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. International recognition came before he himself expected. In 1996, he auditioned for the Rossini in Bologna Opera Festival of Pesaro and gave him a small role in the opera Ricciardo e Zoraide that failed to interpret.
