Festival Underway San Sebastian Film






With a simple ceremony, short and simple, dominated by red and doors that open and close, was inaugurated on Friday the 58th edition of Film Festival San S ebastien (17-25), held in this city attractive for its vitality, architecture, beaches and delicious cuisine.

The ceremony was attended by the actress Junghee Yun (pictured on the side of the Moon and Malkovich) , star of the film Poetry which opened Zabaltegi section - Pearls , as well as John Malkovich and Diego Luna, who had Horizontes Latinos section in which it competes Abel, Luna's debut produced by Gael Garcia Bernal. FIPRESCI Prize was awarded to director Roman Polanski and his film The ghost writer (the writer), who received it in place, British actress Olivia Williams (above) .

The festival, which although remarks that this year is more focused on European cinema, still showing strong ties with Latin American cinema, as evidenced by the films in competition and the composition of juries. The Jury of the Official Section is chaired by Serbian director Goran Paskaljevic (photo 1) , and he is accompanied, among others, the Peruvian director Claudia Llosa (photo 2) , winner of the Golden Bear Festival Berlin Film (2009) by The tet to scared, and the Argentinean Pablo Trapero (photo 3) , whose films The Buenos Aires and Leonera have circulated widely. The ceremony closed with the screening of the Mexican film Chicogrande ( left, the director Felipe Cazals and three of his players ) , which together Argentina's Cerro Bayo are included in the Official Selection. In the Zabaltegi section , which is characterized by free format, length, styles and genres, involving five American films: Carancho (Argentina) Pablo Trapero; The Colors of l mountains as (Colombia-Panama), Carlos Cesar Arbelaez ; Lucia (Chile) from Niles Atallah, Marimbas d hell (Guatemala, Mexico) Julio Hernandez Cordon, and The life (Uruguay) Federico Veiroj .

Hollywood could not miss this year's Festival, this time is this with actress Julia Roberts, who will receive the Donostia Prize on Monday in honor of his career. Of the 18 productions included in the Official Selection only fifteen competing for the Golden Shell, of which eleven are European, four Asian, two American and one American. The competition will not be easy due to the presence of films directed by filmmakers recognized with a particular view, as the Chilean Raul Ruiz ( Lisbon Mysteries), the American John Sayles ( Friend ). Satte Farbe vor n S chwarz ( Colours in the Dark ) is a revelation of the young film director (top photo 1) , who considers himself influenced by two filmmakers: Jane Campion of New Zealand and Belgium Agnes Varda. The film tackles the issue of the elderly, a complex issue, but work smart, honest and rich in human relations. To this must be added the great performances of the Swiss Bruno Ganz (photo 3) and the Austrian Senta Berger (photo 2) .

Several Latin American eyes
Horizontes Latinos is the section for excellence dedicated to Latin American cinema, is the showcase to reach out and meet new directors. "Horizontes Latinos section draws on a tour of San Sebastian festival as interesting and innovative Latin American film of the year, with some titles that are supported by awards won in the great festivals of the year and others who start a promising route" summarizes the festival.
